Application & Admission Requirements
Matriculated Graduate Students
Matriculated graduate students of the University of Washington for whom the program is not significantly redundant to degree requirements are eligible to apply for admission to the CFC program, and may do so by submitting application the following application form:

Admission to the program will be based on a sufficiently strong academic record, along with the following prerequisite courses, or equivalent:
- Probability at the level of MATH/STAT 394-5
- Mathematical statistics at the level of ECON/STAT 481
- Applied regression modeling at the level of STAT 423
- Programming equivalent to CSE 142
- Linear algebra, multivariate calculus and differential equations
In addition, it is strongly recommended that students wishing to enter the CFC program who have not taken a basic investments class should take FIN 460 (Investments) or ECON 422 (Investment, Capital and Finance), or equivalent self-study.
Acceptance of a student into the CFC program will be based on evaluation of his/her application by the CFC Admissions Committee.
Admission to University of Washington Computational Finance Courses as a Non-Matriculated Graduate Student
The University of Washington Computational Finance (CompFin) Graduate Certificate Program serves graduate students in a variety of departments, such as Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics and Computer Science, who wish to pursue highly quantitative careers in the finance industry. Access to CompFin courses is now available to highly qualified individuals on a non-matriculated graduate student basis. At the present time the Certificate itself is not available to non-matriculated students.
Individuals wishing to take courses in the CompFin program should have a very strong quantitative background, and have either pursued graduate course work in a quantitative subject or have an exceptionally strong undergraduate record. Admission will be on a course-by-course basis, subject to instructor approval. Interested individuals should submit the following Course Admission Application for Non-Matriculated Students:

After the instructor has reviewed your application, Ellen will let you know via email whether or not you are admitted to the course. After being notified of admittance to a course, you should register as a Graduate non-matriculated student by following the instructions at this web site (will open in a new window).
By enrolling in this manner you will be able to apply up to twelve credits of courses taken on a non-matriculated basis toward graduate credits in the event that you enroll as a matriculated graduate student at some point in the future.
