Software developer, Environmental and Information Systems department, APL

Software Development

The Environmental and Information Systems department within the UW
Applied Physics Lab has positions open for student software developers.
The focus is on scientific data processing and distribution, algorithm
development, visualization etc. Current projects include a boater
information system making use of weather forecast model data, various
forecast verification tools, statistical approaches to forecast
presentation, autonomous underwater vehicle command, control and
visualization, a workflow portal to mission planning.
We use mostly Java and Linux, with day-to-day tools including Ant,
Tomcat, JUnit, Log4j. Some previous programming experience is
required. Java skills a definite bonus.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop software skills in a
technical and stimulating environment. Up to 20 hours a week is
permitted, and we expect that students with a full course load might
manage 10 hours per week on average, with increased hours
available over the summer. Note that this is NOT an RA position, but
offers only hourly pay.
