Software developer, Environmental and Information Systems department, APL Software Development The Environmental and Information Systems department within the UW Applied Physics Lab has positions open for student software developers. The focus is on scientific data processing and distribution, algorithm development, visualization etc. Current projects include a boater information system making use of weather forecast model data, various forecast verification tools, statistical approaches to forecast presentation, autonomous underwater vehicle command, control and visualization, a workflow portal to mission planning. We use mostly Java and Linux, with day-to-day tools including Ant, Tomcat, JUnit, Log4j. Some previous programming experience is required. Java skills a definite bonus. This is an excellent opportunity to develop software skills in a technical and stimulating environment. Up to 20 hours a week is permitted, and we expect that students with a full course load might manage 10 hours per week on average, with increased hours available over the summer.
