University at Buffalo - Bioinformaticist


Description: The Statistical Genetics and Genomics Research Group (SGGRG), housed 
within both the University at Buffalo Department of Biostatistics and the New York
State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, invites applications
for a research position in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics. The successful candidate 
will play an active role in collaborative projects which span the University at 
Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and other research institutions. Typical 
projects include the  analysis of data generated by state-of-the-art biotechnologies 
such as Agilent, Affymetrix, Sequenom, and Illumina platforms. The SGGRG is seeking 
an individual to assist in locating and annotating genes of interest, running sequence 
analysis software, analyzing genes by their gene ontology, cDNA sequence, protein 
sequence, and genomic structure, mining various gene annotation databases, and 
maintaining sequence data in large scale databases. Opportunities exist for the 
successful candidate to receive training and to participate in the teaching and 
mentoring of graduate students. 

Requirements: A PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Statistics, 
Statistical Genetics, or related field of study. Experience working within a linux 
environment and with some or all of the following: 1) standard sequence analysis software  
(i.e BLAST, EntrezGene, KEGG, GEO, genbank), 2) the R programming language,  3) Fortran, 
C, or C++, and 4) data analytic packages such as Bioconductor or BRB-tools.
