CSSS/SOC/STAT 536 Assignment 5 (Due Before Class Nov. 15)
The Assignment
Using the 1996 American NES data below, fit an
ordered logit model in which the response variable is PID
and the covariates are age, educ, and
income. Interpret the results. Use graphs where
appropriate. Conduct a likelihood ratio test to determine if the
coefficients on age and educ are both
jointlystatistically indistinguishable from 0.
1996 American National Election Study Subset
- The following is a 10 variable subset of the 1996
American National Election Study [Rosenstone, Kinder, and Miller
(1997)]. In addition, an 11th constructed variable (reldist)
is included. This variable gives the difference between the
respondent's ideological distance from Dole and the
respondent's ideological distance from Clinton (as measured
using Left-Right self placements and candidate
placements). Missing values and "don't know" responses have
been listwise deleted. Respondents expressing a voting
preference other than Clinton or Dole have been removed.
