The Role of Statisticians in International Science Policy

Peter Guttorp (Joint with Biostatistics)

University of Washington - Department of Statistics

There are precious few statisticians involved in science policy, either nationally or internationally. In this talk I will describe some of the possibilities for policy work and the potential impact such work can have. An example is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. I will also discuss ways that organizations, individuals, and the community as a whole can get involved in policy aspects of research. And policy research is unavoidably political!
