These meetings are unique in that they are not run by any scientific organization. Since 1987 the meetings have been organized by a free-standing steering committee, currently chaired by Francis Zwiers. Support is sought from a variety of organizations, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and co-sponsorship is usually sought from national and international statistical and meteorological scientific societies.

Some further information can be found in a paper by Allan H. Murphy and Francis W. Zwiers entitled International Meetings on Statistical Climatology, in Bulletin of the American Meteorological Association, 74: 1721-1727.
